Four decades ago, a godly woman started praying that God would establish a Bible-believing Presbyterian church in Northern Anderson County. Mrs. Effie Merritt’s prayers were answered. Covenant Presbyterian Church stands today as a testimony to what God can do when His people step out with...

This past Sunday we looked at the famous episode on John’s gospel in which Jesus tells us, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” He says this to religious Nicodemus, and to anyone else who comes asking, “What does God want me to do?”

This past Sunday in worship we heard Christ confound the religious authorities. As he cleared the temple courtyard of merchandise and moneychangers, they demanded an explanation “Give us proof of your authority to do this.” He famously replied, “Destroy this temple and three days I will raise it up.” The gospel writer, John, explains that Jesus was talking about the temple of his body.

  • Larry Ferris To Love and To Be Loved

In our Sunday morning gathering we are thinking and worshiping our way through the Gospel according to John. John’s gospel is an affectionate account. John knew Jesus intimately. He had traveled with him for years. He had been thirsty and hungry and bone weary with Jesus. He had eaten and drunk and rested with Jesus. At the last supper we find him leaning on Jesus’ breast. At the cross John stood with Jesus’ mother. On Easter morning he stooped down and leaned into the tomb. This is John’s account.

  • What's New...
    Written by Covenant

    Dear Members of Covenant,

The Installation service for Pastor Larry Ferris will be held on Sunday, March 4th at 6:00 PM. Pastor David Sinclair will be delivering the message that evening, and Pastors John Boyte and Jim O’Brien will be providing the charge to Pastor Ferris and to the Congregation.  We will have a time of fellowship after completion of the service.  Please make plans to attend this important service in the life of Covenant.

Larry came to know the Lord in his 20s under the ministry of Dr. Cortez Cooper at First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time he was practicing pharmacy.  He and Lisa married in 1981 and soon after, headed to Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. Graduating in 1986, he and Lisa served for four years on a church planting team in France as missionaries with Mission to the World. They returned to the States where Larry was called to start the Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, serving for four years. Larry joined the staff of Covenant Presbyterian Church  in Nashville, assisting with teaching and pastoral care, and with a particular interest in missions.  He served that congregation from 2000 until his call to Easley. Larry and Lisa have three children and five grandchildren.

    God's blessings to you all,

    Your Session
